Shalom, friends!

Shalom, Friends! There’s nothing I love quite as much as learning something Jewish, and then turning around and telling everyone else about that thing - just in my own words and with a lot of jokes.

I'm participating in Daf Yomi, the 7.5 year-long cycle to learn the entire Babylonian Talmud at the rate of one page daily. In December 2021, during the pandemic, I posted my first TikTok ever, in which I did a “reactions” video for something rather unexpected for that genre - I offered some hot takes on a story from the Talmud.

As each day I had new material to work with, the #DafReactions series was born. To my delight, and surprise, thousands of you decided to follow along with me on my learning journey since I began this project. I have never felt like I had a real community, until all of you came into my life.

#DafReactions was soon joined by several spinoff series in the recognizable comedic tone and style I had established: #ParshaReactions, #JewishHolidayReactions, #TheDafReactionsDictionary, #AVeryJewishMakeupTutorial, #TheElderMillennialsofZion, and #JewishBookReactions.

All of these projects offer fresh, modern, funny takes on Jewish text learning that meet Millennial and Gen Z Jews (and beyond!) where we already happen to be, where we already find community - on TikTok, on Instagram, and on other emerging social media platforms.

I am not a teacher. I’m not a Rabbi. I am a fellow learner on the path of Jewish text discovery. My goal is to inspire others to connect with Jewish ideas and text study in ways that are relatable, meaningful, and personally authentic to them.

Daf Reactions is in many ways a project of reclaiming and embodying a Jewish identity. It started as just my own journey.  But it has become bigger than me. When you lovely people tell me you have decided to start learning Talmud, or discovered more about your heritage, or are reading the sources I recommend, or experiencing joy and laughter because of the videos, then that means I am creating content that is fulfilling its function. What a blessing that is.

I am so grateful to all of you for your support and encouragement. Producing these videos requires countless hours, late nights, and full-time dedication. But because I do not put any of my content behind a paywall or subscription service, grassroots support is vital to continuing these projects, this community we are building together.

If you have appreciated, enjoyed, and learned from #DafReactions or any of my work, please consider a donation! Your gift will help fund the following over the next year:

  • my ability to keep creating this content for you on an ongoing basis

  • filming connected video series building off of the #DafReactions model, exploring Jewish books, art, and history

  • software, production materials, web hosting, advertising, professional development

  • identifying areas of partnership with other peer Jewish content creators, who are also changing the game of what it means to be publicly, and proudly, Jewish in online spaces.

Thank you for your tax-deductable gift - without you, this project, this labor of love creating dynamic, engaging, and joyous Jewish content, would not exist. I am blessed to have you all as my community.

-Miriam Anzovin, your dedicated Jewish nerd friend

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Daf Reactions summer 2023 grassroots funding campaign! The work continues because of YOU!

This image includes the names and dedications of all the supporters of the Daf Reactions Project 2023 summer grassroots funding campaign. It is designed to resemble the first page of Talmud I ever learned, the first page in the Daf Yomi cycle, Brachot 2. On the right side are personal dedications from donors in honor or in memory of others, and at the very bottom the kind, kind comments and dedications to me personally and in memory of my beloved grandmother, Diane Podell Z”L, who passed away in June, 2023. Thank you to each and every person who donated to this campaign, as you have sustained me in continuing this learning and this project. It is an honor to have you all as my community, and I am deeply, deeply grateful to you.
